Brown struck five fours and four sixes in his 32-ball 66
Andrew Gale's 76 was not enough to prevent Yorkshire suffering an 11-run Twenty20 Cup defeat against an Ali Brown-inspired Nottinghamshire.
Brown fired 66 from 32 balls, well supported by Matthew Wood (45) and Samit Patel (32) as the hosts amassed 165-4 at Trent Bridge.
Gale then hit 11 fours and a six, but Yorkshire were always behind the rate.
Ryan Sidebottom and Mark Ealham each picked up two wickets as the visitors closed on 154-8.
There was no sign of the carnage to come from Brown when Deon Kruis (2-38) bowled Notts captain Chris Read with the second ball of the match.
But the former Surrey opener smashed four sixes and five fours in a stand of 110 for the second wicket with Wood before being bowled by Azeem Rafiq.
The departures of Brown and Wood resulted in a loss of momentum for the home side, and Yorkshire were well placed when Gale shared an opening stand of 42 with Rana Naved ul-Hasan.
But, when Gale was caught by Brown off the bowling of Ealham, the Tykes faded to hand Notts only their second win of this season's competition.
Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"If we had been offered 165 at the start we would have taken it, but perhaps we could have got 190 and put more pressure on Yorkshire.
"We've got players who we think can perform for us, that's why what happened in the first half of the tournament is so frustrating.
"We'll look at the the batting order. We're happy with most aspects of it, but we may tinker with it."
