Zimbabwe's Taylor celebrates his second one-day international ton
|
Brendan Taylor hit an unbeaten century as Zimbabwe crushed Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final group game of the one-day triangular series in Harare. The opener hit nine boundaries and one six in his 119 as the hosts chased down Sri Lanka's 236 with 13 balls to spare. Sri Lanka openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga put on 122 but the Zimbabwe bowlers fought back superbly. Both teams had already qualified for the final, which is on Wednesday, with India eliminated after three defeats. Dilshan raced to his half century in 39 balls, but the Sri Lankan captain was stumped off the bowling of Prosper Utseya for 78 off 66 deliveries.

Tharanga completed his half century in more serene fashion but he was caught at long-off by Charles Coventry for 69, to leave the tourists on 181-4 and their batting line-up folded in the next 13 overs. Thilan Samaraweera was the next highest scorer on 16 before he ran himself out while Dilhara Fernando was last out for a duck as Sri Lanka failed to bat their full quota of 50 overs. Zimbabwe's reply got off to a shaky start when opener Hamilton Masakadza fell cheaply to Thilan Thushara but Taylor and Chamu Chibhabha steadied the ship taking the home side to 50 in the 11th over. The pair steadily moved the total past 100 with both bringing up their half centuries before Dilshan trapped Chibhabha (58) leg before to leave Zimbabwe 148-2. Tatenda Taibu hit a well-paced 42 not out to keep the hosts on track while Taylor brought up his second one-day international century with a single in the 45th over as they wrapped up victory with room to spare.
