Injuries overshadow Llanelli win
Llanelli flanker Simon Easterby charges ahead
Llanelli proved too powerful for Cardiff up front
Welsh Premiership
Llanelli 39-26 Cardiff

Wales wing Mark Jones claimed two tries as Llanelli eased to victory against Cardiff in their Welsh Premiership clash at Stradey Park.

Llanelli scored five tries to the visitors' two - but the main talking points were injuries to Wales' squad members Jamie Robinson, Martyn Madden and Stephen Jones.

Scoring details:
Llanelli (19) 39:
Tries:
M Jones 2, D Jones, Quinnell, J Davies.
Con: Bowen.
Pens: S Jones 4.
Cardiff (16) 26:
Tries:
R Williams 2.
Cons: Harris 2.
Pens: Harris 4.

Robinson, who is being tipped to play in the Wales' centre against Italy on Saturday week in the Six Nations Championship, limped off after just three minutes with a hip problem.

Prop Madden didn't last much longer and his shoulder problem required a sling, while Wales fly-half Jones came off 15 minutes before the end with a badly bruised hand.

Following a frenetic opening, wing Jones went over in the left corner for the first try after just three minutes to give Llanelli a good start.

But despite home dominance in the scrum, Cardiff opened up a 10-5 lead with a breakaway try for Rhys Williams and a penalty by Iestyn Harris.

That gave Llanelli a wake-up call and the Scarlets fought back to lead 16-10 after 23 minutes, with a try for flanker Dafydd Jones and two penalties from the boot of Stephen Jones.

The match was still there to win at half-time, with Llanelli leading just 19-16, but the home side raised themselves in the second half.

After Stephen Jones had slotted a drop goal, the forwards got in on the act with No 8 Scott Quinnell and replacement prop John Davies going over for tries to increase Llanelli's lead to 34-19.

There were two tries in injury time, with Cardiff full-back Williams crossing for his second of the match, before Mark Jones had the final say with Llanelli's fifth try in the sixth minute of added time.
