New Zealand secured a draw with Australia after rain and fog forced the second Test to be abandoned.
The start of the final day's play in Wellington was delayed by 90 minutes by rain, with the Kiwis following on after a first-innings deficit of 326 runs.
When play got under way Glenn McGrath took two wickets in three balls as the Kiwis slumped to 37-2 at lunch.
When Lou Vincent was bowled by Michael Kasprowicz the Kiwis were 48-3, but the weather came to the home side's rescue.
Play was later abandoned on that score, leaving Australia 1-0 up in the series with one Test in the series remaining.
After the early delay, things looked good for Australia when McGrath trapped the out-of-form Stephen Fleming lbw for one before dismissing Hamish Marshall in identical fashion for a duck.
Vincent went for 24 just three balls after lunch, becoming Kasprowicz's 100th Test victim, but the rain soon returned.
When there was no sign of the weather clearing by the tea break the umpires called the game off.
The final Test starts in Auckland on Saturday.
