I cannot believe Aaronson is starting tonight! He's not a patch on Tanaka. I'm a lot less confident of winning now.

Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye heading off to Afcon means David Moyes is missing two key players.

Between them they have been involved in eight goals.

It means opportunities for the likes of Dwight McNeil and Tim Iroegbunam. But it's a tough first match without the duo for Everton.

  4. 'The best feeling as a striker'published at 19:53 GMT 20 December

    FT: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It wasn't our best game, a difficult game, but we had the control. It was difficult in the last part of the second half because they pushed and they scored. We kept the result and we go back to Liverpool with the win, that is the most important thing.

"It is never easier [to play against ten]. They play at home, the fans push them and they have more energy, more than at the start. That makes it more difficult, so you have to play smart and to fight for every ball.

"The best feeling as a striker. You need goals. The most important is the win and to play with confidence, and obviously if I can help with goals. The first goal I helped with the pass before the assist, so I try to help the team the best as I can and that's the most important."

On Romero asking for a foul for his goal: "It's part for the game. he is a defender, I'm a striker. I judged the cross better than he did and I took the ball. That is why I scored. That is his opinion, my opinion is that it was a great cross, a lucky header, but I did the right thing."

I think Hugo Ekitike’s goal is a foul. I can’t believe it’s not given. A consequence of that is Cristian Romero runs after the referee and gets himself a yellow card which has an impact at the end of the game.

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Hugo Ekitike, speaking to Sky Sports: "The fans of Spurs have been unbelievable today. They have pushed them and it was difficult for us. We have our fans also and they have been great today.

"When they scored, they were pushing and it was difficult. It was vey physical. It was a great war and we won."

On his goal: "Jeremie put in a great cross and I think the defender touched the ball. I can't lie I was a bit lucky. The most important thing is the three points."

Crystal Palace have failed to win six of their seven Premier League games which have come directly after competing in Europe in midweek this season, drawing two and losing four.

The Eagles travel to Elland Road following a draw with Finnish champions KuPS on Thursday night, when Oliver Glasner named a heavily rotated team.

That was the beginning of an exhausting period of eight matches in 23 days for Palace, but Glasner will hope his squad rotation will pay off tonight - having made 11 changes from their game just 48 hours ago

After all, a victory would take Palace level on points with fourth-place Chelsea with almost half the season completed.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke waves to fansImage source, Getty Images

Daniel Farke's recent switch to a 3-5-2 system has brought an upturn in fortunes for Leeds United, who are unbeaten in their past three matches after following up their victory over Chelsea with draws against Liverpool and Brentford.

It means that they kick-off at Elland Road this evening able to move six points clear of the bottom three, after 18th-place West Ham were well beaten by Manchester City earlier.

Leeds have lost just twice in their eight league games at Elland Road this season, but come up against the competition's best-performing side on the road this season in Crystal Palace.

Farke will hope Dominic Calvert-Lewin can continue his excellent form, having scored in each of his side's past four league matches, as they aim to build further momentum.

You'd like to think that through all the experiences that Arsenal have had being top at Christmas, they can understand the mistakes made in the back half of some seasons that stopped them from winning the title.

Knowing that City and Villa are quite close at this moment will maybe sharpen the mind for them. They definitely can do it.

  11. Who will be top at Christmas?published at 19:42 GMT 20 December

    Everton v Arsenal (20:00 GMT)

Mikel Arteta's side have been looking over their shoulder for a while now and finally Manchester City have gone one point ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League.

The battle for who will be top at Christmas goes on.

A draw would see City retain top spot thanks to their superior goal difference. So the Gunners need a win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium if they are to make it a very Happy Christmas.

Absolutely appalled by that Spurs side. Van de Ven with a scissor challenge not picked up, lucky to finish the game with 9 players, constant late challenges and Richarlison elbowing Frimpong. One of the dirtiest performances I’ve seen for years.

    Zac, Cambridge

Spurs team that can’t pass to each other. A captain who loses his head and lets the team down. I can forgive Xavi for trying too hard, but this is an average Liverpool team. The Spurs team are not overly blessed with talent, surely they can play better than this!

Where do we start? It was total chaos.

Tottenham for large parts of the game were so poor but what Liverpool did, it was a masterclass in how not to manage the last ten minutes of a game. Tottenham had nine men and they looked like the team with eleven.

We thought the game would drift away to Liverpool, then Richarlison comes on and gets his team back in it! Tottenham had some touches and got forward, really entertaining game and credit to Tottenham getting back in it.
