  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 64 mins

    Morocco 1-0 Comoros

    Outstanding double save!

Noussair Mazraoui fizzes a shot towards goal from inside the box on the right. Yannick Pandor, who saved a penalty during the first half, is at full stretch to turn the effort away.

Jawad El Yamiq is on hand and looks certain to capitalise on the rebound, only for Pandor to spring up and turn his left-footed shot away.

    Sublime reflexes and agility.

Comoros are unfortunate not to be level.

    Morocco 1-0 Comoros

End-to-end entertainment. Morocco almost score a second, Azzedine Ounahi firing in a shot from inside the box.

Comoros have a crowd of players back, managing to stop the strike from reaching its target.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 59 mins

    Morocco 1-0 Comoros

Comoros would be level but for a massive save from Yassine Bounou!

Both sides perhaps think play will stop after a poor Sofyan Amrabat challenge, but Rafiki Said - an impressively energetic occasional outlet for his side during the first half - is alert to the chance of a counter-attack and charges unchallenged inside the box on the right.

The Standard Liege winger performs a spot of trickery and applies the finish from close range - but Bounou shows his brilliance, stopping the ball from rolling in with an outstretched leg.

The game got a little bit stretched. Comoros committed players forward and couldn't cover the spaces.

There was a massive space in the middle of the box - too much of a gap. Brahim Diaz smells that. It's a super cut-back from Noussair Mazraoui and a cool finish.

You're never in more danger as an underdog than when you feel like you're in the game.

Joy unconfined for the host nation's fans as their side score the first goal of the tournament!

Noussair Mazraoui collects possession inside the box as part of a Morocco attack down the right.

The Manchester United wideman skims a low cross into the centre, where the unmarked Brahim Diaz has ample space to surge on to the chance and crash the ball past Yannick Pandor, who is finally beaten.

Neil El Aynaoui almost breaks the deadlock!

Anass Salah-Eddine evades Comoros' defence with an inswinging cross from the left, the Roma midfielder meeting the delivery in space at the near post.

The right-footed effort hits the side netting. El Aynaoui has his head in his hands.

The pressure will ramp up as the minutes tick by.

Fatigue will come in. The Comoros coach has to decide when he makes changes, particularly to freshen up in midfield.

Morocco have seasoned players who are used to this sort of pressure. I'd expect them to find that goal.

Right now, it's nervy - not just for the players, but for the fans as well.

There was huge news on Saturday when Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe announced that the tournament will be held every four years from 2028.

The spectacle has taken place every two years since 1968, with a one-year gap between the 2012 and 2013 editions, but will change to a four-year cycle after the 2027 Afcon in East Africa and a 2028 edition.

A new African Nations League which will take place annually from 2029.

"We have the most exciting new structure for African football," Motsepe said.

"I do what is in the interests of Africa. The global calendar has to be significantly more synchronised and harmonised."

Moroccan King Mohammed first discussed his plan to use football as a tool for social and economic development in 2008, before opening the Mohammed VI Football Academy in 2009 and the $65m (£48.5m) Mohammed VI Training Complex in 2019.

The facilities host youth and senior national teams - men and women - combining elite training with education, accommodation and sports science.

"This evolution of Moroccan football is not a random achievement," Moroccan football analyst Jalal Bounouar told BBC Sport Africa.

"It came through years of strategic planning and a long-term national project supported by the highest levels of Moroccan authorities."

Sofyan Amrabat called the stadiums involved "amazing" and the pitches "very good".

"The weather will be good - it's not very hot at the moment in Morocco," he added.

"With the fans behind us, they can push us a lot. We need this energy to go and press and show intensity."

Over the last few editions, the so-called underdogs have really stretched the super powers. That has made the tourney more exciting.

Comoros reach the break level against dominant Morocco, who missed a penalty when Soufiane Rahimi's spot kick was stopped by Yannick Pandor after 11 minutes.

The host nation have had seven of the eight attempts between the teams - but only one on target, which is as many as their opponents have had.

Halfway to a surprise in the opener.
