Shrewsbury Town have made their third signing of the transfer window after agreeing a deal for Stevenage midfielder Nick Freeman that runs until the end of the season.

Freeman, 30, has been with the Hertfordshire club since June 2023, making 86 appearances.

However, he has not played a first-team game this season and joins Salop with the club only one point clear of the relegation zone in League Two.

"Nick is vastly experienced and can play in multiple possessions," Town head coach Michael Appleton said., external

"He is comfortable at right-back or wing-back, can operate in central midfield and can also play out wide, which is invaluable when you're working with a smaller squad.

"He brings real quality on the ball and great composure. All round, he's a really good footballer who knows the level, and he'll be a very good addition for us."

Freeman, who has played more than 230 EFL games, follows Sunderland striker Trey Ogunsuyi and Brentford forward Iwan Morgan into the Shrewsbury squad, who are struggling to pull away from trouble near the foot of the table.

Town, beaten 6-1 by Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the FA Cup at the weekend, face a vital game against next-to-bottom Harrogate at Croud Meadow on Saturday.
