A man has been seriously injured in an attack involving a firearm in Huddersfield.

The 27-year-old man was found in a car on Springwood Hall Gardens at about 17:35 GMT on Thursday with injuries to his back and leg, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Officers said they believed the man's leg injury had been caused by a bladed weapon, while his back injuries were caused by pellet wounds from a firearms discharge aimed at the car.

Police said they were searching for two men who were believed to have been involved in the assault and who fled the scene in a black car driven by a third person.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, but his injuries were not being treated as life-threatening, a force spokesperson said.

Det Insp Tom Hilyer said a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding what had happened was under way.

"This has clearly been a very violent, targeted, incident and it is important persons prepared to behave in such a lawless way are brought to justice as quickly as possible."

West Yorkshire Police urged anyone who saw what happened, or who had information about the incident, to contact the force's Homicide and Major Inquiry Team.
