Dangerous driving arrest over pedestrian's death

The collision happened on Meltham Mills Road on Friday, police said

A man was killed and a woman was hurt when they were struck by a car in Huddersfield, police have said.

The crash, involving a grey Skoda Fabia which mounted the pavement as it was being driven along Meltham Mills Road, happened at about 14:00 GMT on Friday, according to West Yorkshire Police.

A 60-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman suffered minor injuries, a force spokesperson said.

The driver of the car, a 33-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, they added.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who had footage from the scene, was asked to contact West Yorkshire Police.
