More than 100 new homes are to be built at a village in the Cotswolds

A development of 113 homes on the outskirts of a Cotswolds village has been given planning approval.

Spitfire Homes has been granted permission to build housing at the Milestone Ground, Broadway, Worcestershire.

The plans will also include sports facilities for Broadway Football Club, such as a 3G pitch, three other football pitches and a clubhouse.

At a meeting of Wychavon District Council's planning committee last week, councillors were told the development would include 45 affordable homes.

Kevin Beasley, of Broadway Parish Council, said the inclusion of affordable housing can "only be a benefit" to young families in the area.

Sarah Butterfield, who spoke on behalf of Spitfire Homes, said: "The existing pitches are owned by the football club and while they are open and people can access them, technically they are private land.

"There is also no usable clubhouse available. The proposed new clubhouse, pitches and facilities will be leased to the football club to continue their ongoing growth and expansion."

She added that thanks to an agreement with the football club, the facilities would be available for public use.

Councillor Emma Kearsey said there was "considerable concern" about surface water flooding at the site.

But planning officers said the Environment Agency and Severn Trent had been happy with the plans.
