MPs back broadband campaign
Four Norfolk MPs are backing a campaign to bring faster internet access to rural communities.
Gillian Shephard, Henry Bellingham, Norman Lamb and Keith Simpson are among 100 MPs who have signed a House of Commons early day motion demanding broadband for countryside businesses. The campaigners point out the rural businesses will notbe able to fairly compete with urban firms if they are denied affordable access to the ultra-fast internet system. The campaign has cross-party support. One arrested after night shelter fire
Firefighters in Norwich tackled a serious fire at a night shelter in Thorpe on Monday night. Five engines were called just before 2245 GMT to the building on William Kett Close. Nobody was injured, but the building has been badly damaged. Police arrested one man on suspicion of arson.
Crackdown on illegal coursing
A crackdown on illegal harecoursing in Norfolk has left six people facing prosecution. Police descended on a gathering of suspected illegal harecoursers on Ten Mile Bank on Sunday. Six people have been reported for summons. Inspector Alan Roberts said the illegal form of the sport involves trespassing and the death of the hare - unlike the legal version. |
