Attitudes towards street crime
The ICM poll carried out for the BBC's Cracking Crime Day revealed the following statistics about attitudes towards street crime.

 

Percentages of respondents, by age, who said they were

 

Percentages of respondents in the ten police force areas with specific street crime programmes who say they or a member of their immediate family has been a victim of a mugging in the last 12 months

Over the last six months can you tell me whether you think that over the country as a whole the number of street muggings has gone, up, gone down or stayed the same?

ICM interviewed a random sample of 1,009 adults aged 18 and above by telephone between 9 and 12 September 2002. Interviews were conducted across the country and the results have been weighted to the profile of all adults.
