Spurs to support club hero Gazza
Paul Gascoigne
Gascoigne made 57 appearances for England in a 10-year period
Paul Gascoigne is to get help from one of his previous clubs after being detained under the Mental Health Act.

His old club Tottenham confirmed they will aid the ex-England midfielder, 40, as he undergoes medical treatment.

Jonathan Adelman, chairman of the Tottenham Tribute Trust, said: "Paul holds a special place in the history of Tottenham Hotspur.

"It is our clear priority to look to support him and his family at this difficult time."

He was detained following an incident at a Newcastle hotel on Wednesday.

Tottenham's Tribute Trust was set up especially to assist players at such times.

Mr Adelman added: "He was a great player, not only for Spurs but also his country, and our organisation was set up by the club for the express purpose of providing help at such times.

"It is everyone's wish to see Paul well and healthy again. It will be important to determine the best form that this should take."

He also confirmed Newcastle United had already been in contact with Mr Gascoigne's family to offer help.
