Five-cap Williams was selected for Wales' 2008 tour of South Africa

Wales scrum-half Andy Williams has told BBC Sport his contract with the Dragons has been terminated. "I officially received a letter [on Wednesday] from the Dragons to confirm my release," said the 27-year-old. The Dragons have refused to comment on five-times capped Williams who has not played since withdrawing injured from Wales' 2008 South Africa tour. "We don't comment on individual players' contract matters," said Dragons chief executive Gethin Jenkins.

Williams said of the situation: "That's in the hands of the solicitors now so that's a delicate matter. I can't really go into the reasons why. "I thought I'd be playing at Rodney Parade for a lot longer." Swansea-born Williams began his career at Bath, joined the Ospreys in 2003, returned to the west Country club the following year, then moved to the Dragons in 2007. Media reports have linked him with a move to the Scarlets and Williams has said he is keen to remain in Wales, although he said he had had no official offers. "I've had a break now, it's been the fuel I need to get myself right," said Williams, who claimed he had expected to be back in action for the Dragons at the start of the current season following his shoulder injury. "My ambitions are still to play in Wales... I think the Scarlets are a great region, I think the Blues are a great region. "Well, all the regions are great, I've got to sit down and listen [to potential offers]. "My ambitions are to play for Wales, it's something I know I can do because obviously [Wales coach] Warren [Gatland] selected me and coaches before that have selected me. "I've still got my sights set on the Wales tour in the summer."
