Richard Hill keen for Exeter Chiefs to prosper

Former England flanker Richard Hill has said the Exeter Chiefs will be a fantastic addition to the Premiership.

The Chiefs were promoted to England's top flight after beating Bristol in the Championship play-off final in May.

Hill told BBC Devon: "It's absolutely brilliant, as in order to spread the gospel of rugby, it's important to be able to show the masses the game.

"I really hope that they have a good season, are highly competitive and avoid anything unpleasant."

Hill, who played his club rugby with Saracens, won 71 international caps between 1997-2008, and was a key member of England's World Cup winning team in 2003.

He added: "It's great to have a team deep down in the South West who are playing at the highest level.

"I have a relationship with the Exeter Chiefs, I was down before Christmas with Tony Rowe and it was good to catch up with them.

"I'm very pleased for them - it's great to see new blood."

Exeter begin their Premiership campaign at home against Gloucester on Saturday.
