However Ireland quickly recycle the ball to Shane Horgan, who touches down brilliantly with one-hand right in the corner. The decision goes to the video referee, who confirms the try is good. Ronan O'Gara slots over the tight conversion.
74 mins: PENALTY England 24-21 Ireland A penetrating Ben Cohen run makes ground into Ireland's 22. Ireland are penalised from the resulting ruck for going in at the sides. Andy Goode slots home another tough kick for the three points and the lead.
71 mins: Girvan Dempsey almost sneaks through England's defence, but Mark Cueto makes the tackle and forces Dempsey to knock on inside England's 22.

A long line-out throw from Lee Mears five metres from England's tryline goes horribly wrong and lands straight into the hands of Ireland number eight Denis Leamy, who touches down for the score. Referee Whitehouse goes to the video referee, who confirms Leamy's touchdown was legitimate. O'Gara adds the conversion.
The try stemmed from what looked like a legitimate quick line-out throw from Ben Cohen from an O'Gara kick, but the touch judge said the winger was in the field of play when he took the throw. Replays showed the winger was behind the touchline when he made the throw.
54 mins: Excellent England scrummaging forces Ireland to concede a penalty when prop Marcus Horan pops up during the shove. However a few "handbags" are exchanged between Julian White and Donnacha O'Callaghan, but referee Whitehouse decides not to punish either man.

England's dominance in possession eventually pays dividends when second row Steve Borthwick scores his first try for England under the posts after Goode's miss pass finds him unopposed. Goode slots home the conversion.
48 mins: Continued England pressure on Ireland's tryline eventually forces a penalty for offside. England signal their intent for the try when Andy Goode kicks for touch five metres from the tryline. But Paul O'Connell snatches Lee Mears' throw and O'Gara clears the danger.

Seconds after scoring their three points, Ireland immediately concede three points when they were caught offside at the restart. Andy Goode kicks the three points.

38 mins: England concede yet another penalty, this time for not rolling away from the tackle area. But Ronan O'Gara cannot fathom the Twickenham wind and misses the 43m straight kick.
33 mins: PENALTY England 8-11 Ireland
Ireland are penalised straight from the restart when Paul O'Connell is adjudged to have taken Lewis Moody out from gathering the kick. Andy Goode finally slots his first kick from four attempts over for three points.
31 mins: PENALTY England 5-11 Ireland
Slick Irish passing stretches England's defence this way and that. Just as it seems Ireland are going to score in the corner, Brian O'Driscoll's wayward pass is knocked on by Gordon D'Arcy.
But England are penalised when Simon Shaw takes Peter Stringer out in an offside position. Referee Whitehouse sends second row Shaw to the sin bin for 10 minutes. Ronan O'Gara slots the easy three points.
28 mins: Mike Tindall comes on as a blood replacement for try scorer Jamie Noon, who suffers a cut on his forehead.
25 mins: A curious crossfield kick from Cohen catches three England players offside. Ireland take the quick tap and charge towards England's tryline.

Ireland secure a line-out on the 40m line and advance to within 10 metres of England's tryline with of a superb rolling maul. England are penalised for bringing down the maul and Ronan O'Gara kicks the three points.

A horrendous slip from Ben Cohen gives Shane Horgan the opportunity to run onto Brian O'Driscoll's grubber for the touchdown. The ball flirts dangerously with the touchline but stays in the field of play. Ronan O'Gara fails with the conversion. Television replays show the ball crossed the touchline, but fortune favours the Irish.
Four mins: Lee Mears finds Martin Corry with his first throw of the game at the line-out.
Two mins: TRY England 5-0 Ireland
Ireland make a poor start when Andy Goode's kick-off is missed by their jumpers and knock the ball on. England win the resulting scrum and farm the ball out to centre Jamie Noon, who scores England's first try for three games. Goode misses the conversion.
1726: Brian O'Driscoll leads his Ireland team out in front of a hugely partisan Twickenham crowd. The world champions follow shortly after, led by the under-pressure Martin Corry.
Ireland must beat England by 34 points if they are to prise away the Six Nations trophy from France's grasp.
The Irish won on their last visit to Twickenham and are bidding for a third straight victory over the world champions.
