Varndell bagged two of his tries in the last eight minutes
Three tries by Tom Varndell helped Wasps beat Gloucester and reach the last four of the Amlin Challenge Cup.
Tries by Ben Jacobs and Serge Betsen put Wasps on top before Johnny May eluded Danny Cipriani's grasp to set up Peter Eustace to score for Gloucester.
Varndell touched down before the break, and although the second half was lively there were no more tries until his second eight minutes from time.
Charlie Sharples scored for Gloucester before Varndell sealed his hat-trick.
Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:
"Defensively we gave them some soft tries and you're playing against a side that have some finishers and you leak two or three easy tackles and then suddenly you're chasing the game.
"We knew that defence was the only thing that was going to win us the game, we knew that we've been a good attacking side all year, but defensively it was poor."
