Wilkinson made his Toulon debut in a friendly against Brive on 24 July

Former captain Martin Corry believes a fully-fit Jonny Wilkinson is crucial to England's success this season. The fly-half, who joined French side Toulon in the summer, has been recalled to the 32-man elite squad after recovering from a dislocated knee. "I think he'll be more than a force, I think he is the missing piece," Corry told BBC Radio 5 live. "Everyone wants to see a fit Jonny Wilkinson. He is fundamental for a successful England side." Wilkinson moved to French top-flight side Toulon from Newcastle in May, but ensured that his two-year contract would allow him to take part in all England training sessions.

606: DEBATE
|
Leicester's Toby Flood - a former team-mate of Wilkinson at Newcastle - presents the main competition in the squad for the number 10 shirt, although he is still some way from fitness after rupturing his left Achilles in May, while the out-of-favour Danny Cipriani is in the second-string Saxons squad. Corry, who retired from rugby at the end of last season, says that England should base their game around Wilkinson. "In terms of somebody who can play [manager] Martin Johnson's game, he is vital," he said. "He brings his mental attributes, but also his kicking and the calmness he brings to the backline. He is able to go out and implement exactly what a manager wants." England's first international of the season is against Australia at Twickenham on 7 November before Tests against Argentina and New Zealand on the following Saturdays.
