Melling delighted by early form

Melling is eager to continue his good early season form

Harlequins full-back Chris Melling is pleased with his form and fitness after an injury-ravaged recent history.

The 24-year-old suffered an injury while on Great Britain duty in 2007 and then had numerous problems last year.

Melling told BBC London 94.9's London Rugby League programme: "If I can keep building, hopefully by the end of the year I will be hitting top form.

"Then whether it is for internationals or play-offs I hope to stay fit which will be good for the team."

Quins have won five of their first eight games with Melling having played the last few games in his favoured position at full-back, after starting the campaign on the wing.

Melling has scored five tries this year, scoring in both games over the Easter bank holiday fixtures.

He believes he can now stake a claim for the full-back position on a regular basis for his club.

He added: "If I keep playing like I am at the minute with good performances and getting on the score-sheet then there's no reason to change it around."

You can hear BBC London 94.9's London Rugby League programme Wednesday nights from 2100 BST, and on the BBC's iplayer.
