The future of squash in Jersey looks promising despite recent problems, the director of Jersey squash and racketball has said. Nick Taylor believes the a grant from the England Squash and Racketball Association given to local schools, is building a bright future for the sport. "We have got a good structure in place, but with anything you start up it takes time," Taylor told BBC Jersey. "The next couple of years are going to be very exciting times." The game has had a difficult year after it was not selected by the Jersey Island Games Association in their 2015 bid to host the Games and also missed out on being an Olympic sport. The project to improve the game in Jersey started 20 months ago and money given to schools for equipment and nets has meant an increase in take-up of squash. Squash was last held at the Shetland Games in 2005 and will be in the next two Island Games in the Isle of Man and Bermuda.
