Reiter has been outstanding in goal for Basingstoke this season
Basingstoke Bison goaltender Kevin Reiter has said he hopes to return to the ice by the end of the month.
Reiter said his ankle has been healing well, as the Bison endured back-to-back weekend defeats in his absence.
"It's a high ankle sprain, nothing is broken but it'll be at least three weeks," he told BBC Berkshire.
"It's got stronger in the last couple of days, I probably shouldn't have been stood up on the bench for three periods but I need my hockey fix for the week."
Basingstoke lost 4-2 at home to Cardiff on Saturday but plunged to a far more damaging 4-3 defeat at fellow Elite League strugglers Hull on Sunday.
"Every point is crucial for us right now, it feels like every game is the biggest game of the year," said Reiter following Saturday's defeat.
"We need to pick up some points as soon as possible."
Reiter also defended back-up goaltender Euan King, who stepped up from Premier League side Peterborough Phantoms to cover for the American in both games.
"Getting thrown into the fire is never easy, there's never a quick fix to a problem like that," said Reiter.
Player-coach Eric Braff confirmed that the Bison were keen to import a short-term replacement goaltender from Europe.
"We're going to need a goalie to step in, we're not going to have Euan every day, he plays in the Premier League," said Braff.
"We need to get someone in temporarily while Kevin recovers, that's our focus.
"We're talking with agents for some European goalies, guys who can get here quick where we don't have to apply for work permits, who can do a job for a couple of weeks."
