Needing to be a good all-rounder in this sport would be the greatest understatement since the words 'The Olympics is quite a big event' were uttered.
Spence falls into this category with ease. She was swimming aged two, riding at three and five years later was competing in Tetrathlons (another multi-event).
Fencing followed and the modern pentathlon was calling after watching the Sydney Olympics. She was European champ last year and won silver in the world juniors.
Spence won a fencing Commonwealth bronze in 2006, but it is the multi-event where she will be gunning for more glory.
