Double Olympic gold medallist Julien Absalon is a cross-country mountain biker. He also has 17 Union Cycliste Nationale (UCI) World Cup wins to his name and is a four time World Champion. Julien went to school in the Hautes-Vosges in north eastern France.

The school prides itself on its Olympic gold medallist who left the school a decade ago. Lycée André Malraux is in a semi-rural area and many of the school's 1600 students travel from small towns around Remiremont. The school prides itself on its students' woodwork skills and the fact that the majority of their students go on to university. The hills and forests surrounding the school are perfect for mountain biking and Julien is remembered as a well mannered student who spent most of his free time on the local bike trails.
