Second for Pitt in WSC Round One

Andrew Pitt
Pitt won the Supersport World Championship in 2001 and 2008

Andrew Pitt narrowly missed out on a win in the opening round of the Supersport World Championship in Phillip Island, Australia on Sunday.

The race was won by Pitt's teammate Kenan Sofuoglu making it a 1-2 for the HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team.

The Manx resident came home just six one hundredths of a second behind his Turkish team-mate after 21 laps of the 4.445km Phillip Island circuit.

Anthony West came home third to make it an all-Honda podium.

"I just found myself in the wrong place going into the final lap but big congratulations to Kenan, he had a great ride today," said Pitt.

Pitt dedicated his second place to victims of the recent bushfires in Australia and has pledged his prize money to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal Fund.

The second round will take place in Qatar on 14 March.
