Toseland crashes in MotoGP tests

James Toseland

James Toseland has escaped uninjured from a crash during official testing ahead of the 2009 MotoGP season.

The Tech 3 Yamaha rider came off at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia after completing 34 laps having established himself as the 14th quickest rider.

Loris Capirosi on a Suzuki tops the standings after the first day ahead of Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi.

Rossi has stitches in his hand and foot after falling on a glass table at his home in Italy.

The three-day test started on Thursday at the 3.4 mile circuit just outside of Kuala Lumpur.

Toseland is riding the 2009 M1 Tech 3 Yamaha for the first time, as well as using the Bridgestone tyres that all riders will employ for the 18-round World Championship.

The former World Superbike Champion finished 11th in his MotoGP debut season last year, but has unhappy memories of the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang where he crashed early on in the race.
