Moore will fight for Albion shirt

West Bromwich Albion's on-loan striker Luke Moore says he is ready to battle for his place in Tony Mowbray's team once he has served his three-match ban.

"It's the manager's job to pick the side," he told BBC WM. "But I just want to be 100% to help the team.

"I think there'll be a lot of rotation so you have to be as sharp as you can."

Moore, 22, was sent off in Albion's 4-1 home defeat by Leicester and will miss Saturday's game with Colchester and next Tuesday's trip to Cardiff.

And he has some stiff opposition for a starting place at The Hawthorns when he does return, with Kevin Phillips (21 goals for the season), Roman Bednar (16) and Ishmael Miller (15) all in good form.

Although he must wait to return for Albion, Moore played up front with Birmingham City's Cameron Jerome for England's Under-21s in Tuesday night's goalless draw with Poland at Molineux.

"Me and Cameron managed to get some of the ball in the first half," he said. "But we didn't see a lot of it in the second.

"We had a lot of new players. International football's like that sometimes."

The game with the Poles was another opportunity for Moore to continue to work on his sharpness after not playing regularly at Aston Villa.

"I need to get fit and it's unfortunate that the season's coming to an end," he admitted.

"I haven't really been able to get any consistency since Christmas and it's been frustrating.

"I'm trying to work hard in the gym to get that sharpness back."
