Glenn Roeder insists his summer rebuild is going to plan (Getty)
Glenn Roeder is confident that Gary Doherty will put pen to paper on a new Norwich City contract this summer.
Doherty is a free agent from 1 July, but the Norwich boss hopes to rectify that when the Canaries centre-half returns from his holiday.
"Just because he's not signed doesn't mean he's not going to come back from his holidays, walk in and sign the contract," Roeder told BBC Norfolk.
But Roeder did admit there are some details in the deal to be ironed
out.
"There's one or two minor issues that never got resolved before his holiday," said Roeder. "He was very relaxed about it all."
Doherty, signed from Spurs by Nigel Worthington in August 2004, was fans' player of the season in 2006 and is now just short of 150 games for the club.
And, since taking over as Canaries boss from Peter Grant late last October, Roeder has been pleased with the form of his 30-times capped Republic of Ireland international.
"He's certainly told me how much he enjoyed playing for the club from last November onwards," said Roeder. "And he was very consistent for us."
As for new faces at Carrow Road, Roeder said that he was hopeful of expanding his recruitment soon, having this week signed Sammy Clingan from Nottingham Forest.
"Maybe I thought we might have one more in by now," added Roeder. "But that could happen in the next few days, which would make two.
"Then we're into next week and onto the next two, three, four targets that have been well planned for a long time now."
