Histon receive funding injection

Histon are back in the market for new players after receiving extra transfer funds from a club sponsor.

The funding breakthrough has allowed the club to take former Cambridge pair Adam Tann and Shane Tudor on trial.

Boss Steve Fallon told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "If they come to us it needs to be for the right reasons because it won't be for the money.

"If everything works out medical-wise then it should be a couple of great options for us."

The part-time Stutes had been hit hard by the collapse of pay-TV broadcaster Setanta and looked set to start the season with less players than less year.

Fallon says the new money - from club sponsor Tony Roach - will be used exclusively for improving the playing squad.

"A budget's been set and whether we want one player, two players, three players or four players is down to us," he said.

"We'll have a look at what's available and we'll go from there; we've got a wage structure and we'll stay within that."

Tudor and Tann, both 27, have been training with the club since Saturday and both played a part as the Stutes kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win over Dereham Town.

Tann - a defender - began his career over the A14 at Cambridge United and spent last season with League Two side Notts County.

Winger Tudor suffered a serious knee injury last year whilst at Port Vale which forced him to retire from professional football.

"Shane's had an injury and taken insurance money from the Football League so can only play part-time," Fallon said.

"If he comes through training and our medical then we'll sit down and decide if it's right."

Chairman Gareth Baldwin confirmed last month that the club have deals in place to sign three players should the money be available.
