Crewe striker Calvin Zola happy with personal progress
Calvin Zola is Crewe's top scorer this season with 14 goals
Crewe Alexandra striker Calvin Zola believes he is enjoying his best ever season as a professional footballer.
The 25-year-old has scored 14 goals for the Alex, having easily surpassed his previous season's best total of seven by the end of September.
Zola told BBC Radio Stoke: "I think it's been a wonderful season for me. I've enjoyed every minute I've played.
"I'm happy with what I've done so far, but I want to kick on and make it a season that I'll never forget."
Zola's goals have been one of the major positives for Crewe in their first season back in League Two, following relegation in May.
Prior to the start of the January transfer window, manager Dario Gradi said that Zola would attract interest from Championship clubs and put a £1m price tag on the former Tranmere forward.
But, while admitting that he is flattered by Gradi's valuation, Zola insisted that he is far from the finished article.
"I came here to learn and I know I still have a lot of things to learn," added Zola. "Dario is teaching me, and that's why I came here. He's helped me a lot.
"I'm grateful to be playing for Crewe because it's a well-respected club throughout the country. It's an honour to play here."
Zola could return from an eye injury to face the Football League's bottom club Darlington at the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday.
