Wales manager John Toshack says Aaron Ramsey should go out on loan if he joins a Premier League club.
Ramsey has been linked with a move to Premier League and European champions Manchester United.
But Toshack insists if Ramsey does make the move, then it will not benefit anyone if he is left in the stands.
"If they are going to move to a bigger club or a higher division, it's obviously in our interests that they are sent out on loan," said Toshack.
"It is important that they are playing regularly because if not, the step up becomes difficult.
"We've had examples here where we've had young lads come in, had moves and it hasn't always been positive from our point of view.
"We've had David Cotterill gone to Wigan and not played that much, and Chris Gunter who has been outstanding in the games for us, but moved to Tottenham and hasn't got the amount of football we would like.
Cardiff have already rejected a bid from Liverpool and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the midfielder who is set to make his Wales senior debut against Iceland.
Meanwhile, Toshack will be boosted by the return of West Ham striker Craig Bellamy who has not played for the Hammers since a substitute appearance at Wigan in February.
But in effect, he has been out since October.
"Obviously Craig's fitness is nowhere near what it should be," said Toshack.
"But it seems that he has got over his problems and he has been training a lot and doing well.
"But as for starting a game, that is something we will have to discuss with him.
"He has been missing for several months. We did not expect him to be out for this long.
"But he is here, he is training well with us and also training at Cardiff before the Cup final. That is far better than working on your own.
