Hutton has not played for Scotland or Spurs since November
George Burley has included Alan Hutton in his 26-man Scotland squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands and Iceland.
The Spurs defender has not played since Scotland's last match against Argentina in November because of a foot problem.
If the 25-year-old comes through a reserve outing on Monday unscathed, he will travel to Amsterdam.
Manager Burley has also handed midfield berths to Derby's Gary Teale and Cardiff's Gavin Rae.
Hutton's season has been decimated by injury and the Tottenham full-back has only just resumed training with the first team at White Hart Lane.
"He has been training for the last week and I spoke to Harry Redknapp and Alan," said Burley.
"He has a reserve game on Monday, which is ideal for Alan to play in and assess his fitness.
"We've not closed the door - he's in the squad.
"We will keep our fingers crossed the game goes well and then he will join us."
Squad regulars Shaun Maloney, James McFadden, Barry Robson and Garry O'Connor are missing through injury.
Former Rangers and Dundee midfielder Rae, 31, retains his place after his surprise call-up for last month's squad gathering at St Andrews.
Rae earned his first call-up in two years over 12 months ago, coming off the bench against Croatia and started in May's defeat to the Czech Republic, but has not featured in any of the squads for Scotland's three Group 9 qualifiers so far.
Burley has guided Scotland to second place in the table ahead of the 28 March trip to Amsterdam and the 1 April clash with Iceland at Hampden.
And the manager stressed the importance of continuity in the selection process.
"There are no experiments," he explained. "We have two very important World Cup games and it's a settled squad. The only new addition is Gary Teale.
"He has been in excellent form with Derby County this season and he has pushed his way back into the squad. He gives us pace, which we have maybe been lacking, and he is a natural wide player."
Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is included, despite having played only one game for his club since November.
Gordon lost his first-team place at the Stadium of Light after suffering an ankle injury and has been unable to reclaim it since.
Burley must now decide whether to stick with his regular number one or hand the gloves to Rangers' Allan McGregor.
"Everyone in the squad has a chance of playing, it's as simple as that," he said. "We have three very good goalkeepers in the squad so I'm in a very fortunate position."
Meanwhile, Scotland will play Northern Ireland in a B International at Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld, on 6 May.
