Two goals from Dale Jennings and Ian Thomas-Moore helped Tranmere beat MK Dons as both sides ended with 10 men.
Jennings made it 1-0 when he pounced on Danny Woodards' mistake before Peter Leven equalised from the penalty spot following Tim Cathalina's handball.
Thomas-Moore converted a penalty, Jennings fired home from inside the area and Thomas-Moore shot low for 4-1.
MK Dons' Gary Mackenzie and Tranmere's Zoumana Bakayogo were dismissed, before Sam Baldock tapped in a consolation.
Tranmere manager Les Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I think it was a highly entertaining game but not always for the right reasons.
"But everything has got to go into the melting pot to produce a game like that and it did.
"We had a little word with Dale Jennings [in training], as he hadn't made the keeper make a save for a few weeks.
"He showed today there was an end product."
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It's a massive disappointment and I can't back the players up to a certain extent. You can't keeping coming away from home and making mistakes and losing games. It is something that has got to be rectified.
"Some of the players are lucky we are nearing January and not in January. It is my job as a manager to strengthen to go where we want to go to.
"The referee was the most notable man on the field with a few goals that shouldn't have been penalties and maybe it was offside for the third as well."
