Rahul Dravid
Dravid and Tendulkar laid the foundations with thrilling knocks
India captain Rahul Dravid said spinners Piyush Chawla and Ramesh Powar were the key to his side's nine-run win over England at Bristol on Friday.

Chawla clean-bowled captain Paul Collingwood and Kevin Pietersen, while Powar took 1-43 from his 10 overs.

Dravid said: "They did me proud. We knew it was a gamble playing them, but they way they contained their batsmen in the middle overs won us the game.

"We played some good cricket, but our spinners worked beautifully for us."

Dravid hit an unbeaten 92 as India amassed 329-7 after opting to bat, with Sachin Tendulkar smashing a brilliant 99.

And Dravid said: "It's good to be back in the runs and to play with some freedom, after the second innings in the last test at The Oval."

England skipper Collingwood was philosophical in defeat.

He said: "That was a great game of cricket played on a great wicket.

"We fought to the end and nearly chased down 320-odd, and it was a great effort from the boys."

Collingwood refused to be drawn on whether spinner Monty Panesar should have been picked in place of one of the four England seamers.

"We thought we'd go with the four big lads, but maybe 320-odd was too many for us," he said.
