Northants batsman David Sales has signed a new four-year deal to stay at the club until 2012.

The news ends speculation that the former captain was set to leave the County Ground for Warwickshire.

"I'd narrowed it down to two clubs but Northants is where my family is based and I didn't want to uproot them," he told BBC Radio Northampton.

Meanwhile, Rob White and Stephen Peters have both signed new contracts which will keep them at the club until 2010.

Sales added: "There's been a lot of things happening behind the scenes, a lot of discussions taking place but there's a great spirit amongst the team and I believe there could be some great things on the horizon for us.

"I still think there's some unfinished business that we need to put right as a county and I want to be involved when we win the silverware."
