Kirby made his first-class debut in 2001

Gloucestershire's Steve Kirby says he hopes to prove he could be a 'death bowler' in England's one day side. Kirby has been selected for the Lions tour to the United Arab Emirates next month where they will play eight games. He told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "This is an opportunity I can't wait to grab with both hands. "I think it's a chance for one of four or five bowlers to claim the death bowling spot. I don't believe any one bowler does it well at the moment." Kirby, 32, was Gloucestershire's leading wicket taker in first-class cricket in 2009 but has increasingly become a regular part of their limited overs bowling unit.

Improving my one day cricket was one of the main reasons for coming to Gloucestershire

"Ian Harvey was so helpful to me, especially with the slower ball out of the back of the hand, and his ability to bowl yorkers at the end of innings was legendary," added Kirby. "With all his experience over the last 10 years, I've also learned a lot bowling at the opposite end to Jon Lewis and improving my one day cricket was one of the main reasons for coming to Gloucestershire." The Lions tour runs between 10 and 26 February.
