South African Imtiaz Patel is considering "very carefully" whether to become the next chief executive of the International Cricket Council.
Patel, chief executive of South African broadcaster Supersport, said he was humbled to be the ICC's first choice.
"I will be engaging in discussions with the ICC," he said. "I will consider my position very carefully."
He would take over from Malcolm Speed when the Australian steps down from the post in July.
Patel, who worked for South Africa's United Cricket Board from 1991 to 1999, said: "I enjoy a most rewarding and happy career in my current role as CEO of Supersport, which is a dynamic organisation within a wonderful international group.
"In the interest of the confidentiality of all candidates, I feel that it will be inappropriate to make any further public comment about the ICC post, prior to the finalisation of the process."
David Morgan, the ICC president elect, said there was an "absolute consensus" in naming Patel as their preferred candidate.
"He was among the six candidates shortlisted for the job by the ICC executive board from a list of 15 chosen by our consultants," he said.
"We still have to negotiate the terms and conditions of the contract with Mr Imtiaz. The initial contract will be for a term of three years."
Inderjit Singh Bindra, who is on the council of the Indian Premier League, will take up a new ICC role of principal advisor.
