Udal grateful for second chance
S Udal
Hampshire spinner Shaun Udal is glad to have been given another chance by England after struggling in Pakistan.

The 36-year-old told BBC News 24: "I wasn't totally surprised to be picked.

"I felt I did OK in Pakistan without pulling up any trees. The wickets there were very flat and dead as there was no bounce or spin for finger-spinners."

"India, being very strong in the spin department and their batsman being good players of spin, means there should be turning wickets."

Udal will be partnered by Ashley Giles and a third spinner will be added.

"If I get to India and fail I can't say I haven't been given a chance. I've taken wickets against India before for Hampshire so hopefully that will continue," Udal added.

"All I can do is my best and if that's good enough for England so much the better."

The third spinner could be Northamptonshire rookie Monty Panesar.

He said: "If they want me then I am ready and ready in all areas. It is nice to be in their thoughts but I try not to think too far ahead.

"It will be fantastic if I do go but this is more of a long-term thing. If it does not happen now then hopefully it will in the future."

It's a great opportunity for me to be involved in the England set-up
Liam Plunkett

One youngster definitely packing his bags for India is Liam Plunkett, who impressed in Pakistan after getting called up following injuries to Simon Jones and Chris Tremlett.

Though Jones is fit again, Plunkett is included in both the Tests and one-dayers for India.

The young Durham paceman said: "It's an exciting time for me and I'm really happy to be going to India.

"It's a great opportunity for me to be involved in the England set-up and to get more experience at international level."

County coach Martyn Moxon said: "Liam made his mark in Pakistan, putting in some great performances and really earning his place in the squad."
