CI's men cling to survival hopes

CI Men have slim chance of surviving

The Channel Islands' men's athletics team have one last chance to save themselves from relegation in National League Division Three this weekend.

A season of injuries and poor showings has meant the side are bottom of the table going into this last round.

However the team have got a chance of surviving and team coach Andrew Winnie is optimistic.

"I'm very confident we'll finish in the top two, which may be enough," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

The team have four athletes back after injury, with Guernsey's Lee Merrien and Tom Druce in strong contention to win their events.

"We've got the strongest team that we possibly can this weekend and it's just a shame we couldn't have that team out at least once more this season.

"It's just a mathematical equation and nothing is impossible, we still get another chance next year to start moving back up again if we go down."
