Welcome to Sports International
'Sports International' is the BBC World Service's long-running weekly magazine sports programme.
For twenty years the show has got underneath the skin of sport, behind the headlines and inside the minds of the big players. For much of its history, each show has comprised a range of features on the major sports, interviews with global stars, packages on the off-beat and stories about the humorous side of sport. Everyone from Pele to Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods to Martina Navratilova, have featured in the programme. In the modern era, 'Sports International' has focussed on mini-series, one-off documentaries and in-depth interviews. Its audience comprises both sports and non-sports fans, such is the depth and range of its human interest. Recent 'Sports Internationals' have included a three-part series on 'Football in the East' which profiled the rise, popularity and impact of the game in China, Japan and Bangladesh, 'Talking Sport with...', a two-part interview mini-series that featured Maurice Greene and Graeme Souness, and 'Theatre of Dreams', a four-part documentary series on some of our legendary sporting venues. The first 'Sports International' of each month is entitled 'Focus on Football' and the show is dedicated totally to the beautiful game. Each programme is 24-minutes long and can be heard in all regions of the world that carry BBC World Service. Wherever you are, you can hear it on Wednesday evenings, Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings. |
