The Williams sisters now hold all four Grand Slam doubles titles
Sisters Venus and Serena Williams won the French Open women's doubles title with a 6-2 6-3 victory over Katarina Srebotnik and Kveta Peschke. The American top seeds triumphed in one hour 13 minutes to become only the third women's pairing to hold all four Grand Slam titles at the same time. They have now captured six of the last eight Grand Slam doubles titles and taken their career total to 12. Venus and Serena's only previous French Open doubles title came in 1999. They will become the top-ranked doubles pairing on Monday, making Serena only the sixth woman to hold top spot in the singles and doubles at the same time. "We have a Williams Slam, four in a row, so we're really excited," said Serena, the younger sister at 28. Venus, 29, added: "Playing the doubles for us is not just fun. We're playing for the title, because it does take that extra focus and determination. It's all serious for us out there."

Serena on playing more doubles

The sisters played doubles together regularly in their early careers, winning the French and US Opens in 1999. They then cut back on their doubles tournaments before refocusing on the discipline in 2008 when they won Olympic gold in Beijing. "I think it started as us trying to get ready for the 2008 Olympics. After that, we just never stopped," said Venus. "Now we just we just realise what it's like to have that major title next to your name, and it's pretty addictive." Serena continued: "I personally just thought it was fun and easy and I didn't have to practice as many hours. It was great." Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver, and Mary-Joe Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva are the only other women's pairings to have held all four Grand Slam titles at the same time. The Williams sisters are also unbeaten in 12 Grand Slam finals.
