Scrum-half Gareth Cooper has won 46 caps for Wales
|
Cardiff Blues scrum-half Gareth Cooper will miss the rest of the season with a groin injury that needs surgery. The injury is likely to take between six and eight weeks to heal, meaning the 30-year-old is also a major doubt for Wales' summer tour to New Zealand. Cooper's fellow Wales international scrum-half Richie Rees is now set to start the Blues's Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final at Newcastle on Sunday. Tom Shanklin, Robin Sowden Taylor, Gary Powell and Sam Hobbs are already out. After the club season ends Wales are soon in action as Warren Gatland's side welcome South Africa to Cardiff on 5 June. Wales then head to New Zealand for two Tests against the All Blacks, on 19 June in Dunedin and then a week later in Hamilton.
