Bates believes the Falcons must look to the future after their exit from the ECC

Newcastle director of rugby Steve Bates believes his players must learn from the disappointment of missing out on a Heineken Cup place this season.
Sunday's European Challenge Cup exit to Saracens ended all hopes of making it into the competition but Bates said it is still early days for his team.
"We should not be too disappointed about this," he told BBC Newcastle.
"As we said, this is a process that needs to take place over three or four seasons, not just one."
Falcons last qualified for the Heineken Cup, rugby's equivalent of the European Champions League, in 2004-05 and have not been involved since.
