Brian O'Driscoll hobbles off late in the game at Croke Park

The Ireland captain sustained the injury late in the second half and coach Eddie O'Sullivan confirmed the centre will miss the Twickenham clash.

O'Sullivan said his team should have been awarded a first-half try when Shane Horgan charged at the Welsh line.

"We had what looked like a try. The lads thought he had got it," he said.

"They (Wales) came back after that and got a toe-hold in the game. That was a crucial moment in the game.

"Other than that, it was nip and tuck. They had a purple patch before half-time but we held them out.

"Going to half-time, I was pretty happy because they had thrown everything at us.

"The turning point in the second half was when they scored the try. They were in the lead and they could take control of the game."

Wales wasted a number of other try-scoring opportunities but O'Sullivan insisted his team did not get "the breaks".

He also defended Ireland's "fairly direct" tactics which resulted in his team's backs seeing little of the ball.

"We saw that when they were able to speed up the game, they were quite dangerous so we didn't want to get into that kind of game with them," said O'Sullivan.

"I thought we were going to grind out a result against them but once they got the (last) penalty with a few minutes to go, we needed to get a try but we didn't get the ball back off them."

O'Sullivan rejected criticism of his decision not to make early substitutions.

"We use the bench when I feel it is needed," he said.

"The game was on a knife-edge pretty much all the way through so you have got to be careful when you make substitutions, that they are going to have the correct impact.

"I'm happy enough with the substitutions."
