Catt will win his 67th England cap against Australia on Sunday
|
Former Australia coach Eddie Jones has questioned Mike Catt's England selection for Sunday first Test against the Wallabies in Sydney.
Catt will partner Mathew Tait in midfield for his first Test start since the defeat by Australia in 2004.
"Catt hasn't basically made a tackle all season," Jones told the Sydney Morning Telegraph.
"He just doesn't tackle. Even when he was at his best - and he is now 34 - he struggled to make a tackle."
Jones' reign as Australia coach ended last year after a dismal run of eight losses in nine games.
And he predicts the new-look side, under the guidance of John Connolly, will be a different proposition from the one that lost 26-16 at Twickenham last November.
"If England start well and get a bit of confidence, a bit of flow, they will compete well," Jones added.
"If they don't, it will be a very long day in the office for them.
"If they don't front-up in the first 20 minutes, then Australia will be on a roll. Australia are certainly capable of putting a few points on this opposition."
