Mark Cueto grabbed two late tries as Sale claimed a 25-18 European Challenge Cup semi-final first-leg advantage against Connacht on Saturday.
Cueto rounded off Jason Robinson's good work on 73 minutes and powered over for his second touchdown in injury time.
Sebastien Chabal also went over for Sale in the second half to level the score at 11-11.
Connacht were 8-6 up at the break thanks to an Andrew Farley try, while David Lacey added a late consolation.
In the other semi-final on Sunday, Ludovic Mercier scored 27 points as Pau beat Brive 37-16 in the first leg.
Julien Laharrague gave Brive the lead on 15 minutes but Mercier kicked four penalties and converted Mathieu Dourthe's try just before half-time.
Brive's Valentin Courrent kicked a series of penalties after half-time before Mercier raced onto his own kick to score 10 minutes from the end.
A Nicolas Martin try extended Pau's lead to 21 points in the final minute.
Worcester cast aside their relegation dogfight to seal a 43-34 first-leg lead against Leeds in a keenly-contested European Shield semi-final first-leg.
Tries from Thinus Delport (2), Jon Hylton, Paul Sampson and Gary Trueman, plus a penalty try looked to have put Worcester in total command.
Tim Stimpson kept Leeds in it with 24 points, two tries, two penalties and four conversions.
But Trueman's last-minute converted try gave Worcester a nine-point advantage.
