Worcester prop Chris Horsman put in a strong display to help his side beat Brive 29-15 in the first leg of their European Challenge Cup game.
Meanwhile, a late try from Justin Bishop edged London Irish to a narrow 20-18 victory away to French side Auch.
Robbie Kydd was the Saracens hero with 16 points in a 24-21 win over Bayonne after the French side had been 14-0 up.
But Leeds Tykes saw victory snatched from their grasp against Grenoble, who landed a last minute penalty.
Horsman, who qualifies for Wales this autumn was the leading figure in Worcester's win scoring one of his side's first-half tries.
Samoan centre Dale Rasmussen extended the Worcester margin with a well-taken try in the second half and skipper Pat Sanderson confirmed the victory with his
side's fourth try on the hour mark.
Scottish side Borders put Portuguese side AA Coimbra to the sword, romping to a one-sided 98-3 victory.
Borders scored 16 tries, including three for Test winger Nikki Walker, with full-back Stuart Moffat converting nine of them.
