Newcastle (0) 5
Try: Dowson
Oriol Ripol grabbed two tries as Sale eased past Newcastle in the EDF Energy Cup at Edgeley Park on Friday.
Ripol touched down either side of the break, running in Jason Robinson's long off-load in the right corner and racing clear on the blind side for his second.
Chris Jones added a late third try and Daniel Larrechea kicked 13 points in the absence of Charlie Hodgson.
Newcastle made sure it was not all one-way traffic with Phil Dowson scoring a last-minute consolation try.
Sale director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre:
"Just like last week's match against Saracens, we didn't really play that well.
"But I changed a lot of players in the team and at least the defence was better than last week.
"However, we didn't pass the ball well and we didn't really create too many opportunities for ourselves."
Newcastle director of rugby John Fletcher:
"We had four players there making their first starts for the club.
"We've got so many players injured and I don't think the scoreline quite reflected the game, although they did look more of a threat throughout."
