Evans produced another fine performance with the boot for Quins

Harlequins recorded a first win in 14 encounters against Leicester as they prevailed in the opening round of the LV= Cup at Welford Road.

Quins outplayed the hosts in every area - aside from the set-piece scrum - as Billy Twelvetrees's faultless kicking was more than matched by Nick Evans.

Evans won the battle of the boot in the first half as Vallejos added a try.

After the break, Tom Guest and Gonzalo Camacho's scores ended the contest before Tigers won a late penalty try.

Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill:
"I thought the side I selected was good enough to win.

"I have no regrets but I learnt a lot about certain people. Some boys put their hands up for future selection but some guys let themselves down.

"They took their chances. We coughed up too much ball in our own half and they played the conditions better with experience at 10."

Harlequins coach Conor O'Shea:
"We are delighted. This competition is important to us and we've got off to a great start.

"The two teams played some great counter-attacking rugby running from deep in the conditions, with Gonzalo Camacho particularly impressive.

"I'm happy with this result because they still had eight internationals on the field to our five."
