Luctonians' lead at the top of the Midlands One table was cut to a single point after they went down 23-5 at Peterborough.
Leon Mells scored Lucs' try as they were well beaten by a Peterborough side who climbed to fourth in the table.
Luctonians now hope local rivals Malvern can do them a favour by beating second-placed Broadstreet this weekend.
Malvern go into Saturday's rearranged game in good heart after a 27-20 win over promotion-chasing Kenilworth.
The Worcestershire club put two points between themselves and bottom club Bedford Athletic, Gregg Summers helping himself to a first-half hat-trick of tries.
Malvern's Peter Woods told BBC Hereford and Worcester that it had been a thrilling encounter at Spring Lane.
"It was a really exciting game and Malvern held out for most of the second half," he said. "Kenilworth were pressing very hard in the closing minutes, but we held on for the win."
Bromsgrove, looking to join Malvern in League One next season, kept their Midlands Two (West) promotion push on course with a 43-21 win at Walsall.
The men from Finstall Park could move two points clear of Burton at the top if they win Saturday's rearranged fixture at Dudley Kingswinford.
The original fixture had to be postponed shortly before kick-off when the referee pulled a muscle in his warm-up and no suitable replacement could be found.
Hereford's scheduled home match against Stoke on Trent was postponed as the pitches at Wyeside were waterlogged.
