Leeds director of rugby Andy Key has praised Juan Gomez after the prop made his debut for Carnegie in the 19-8 win over Bedford Blues on Sunday.

Key told BBC Radio Leeds: "He did really well, his overall contribution for his first game was excellent.

"The first ball he had to take was a difficult pass and he took it well, plus he was very good in defence."

The 24-year-old Argentinian is on a season-long loan at Headingley from Irish side Leinster.

The result gave Leeds their 11th win of the season and puts them four points clear of Exeter at the top of National League One.

However it was the second week in a row that Carnegie failed to claim a bonus for scoring four tries.

"We are disappointed that we didn't get the bonus point, but we are really pleased with the way the boys played," said Key.

"I think when we look back at the game we should have put it to bed by half time," he added.
